Building week at AG has been so much fun! These kiddos were super builders! Team Gardener also focused on team building. We focused of working with others, listening and cooperating.
Tuesday for Team Gardener we built airplanes. But not your average paper planes. Oh, no….these they built out of two strips of paper, three straws and tape. They were amazed by how far they flew!
Wednesday Team Gardener broke up into groups of two and each team was given a paper river. Their objective was to build a bridge over their river. We made centers in the classroom of things they could use and they had to choose a material as a team—ie: blocks, marble works, train tracks, legos, ladder blocks and Unifex cubes. They all worked so well together in their teams—and once they were done with one they enthusiastically choose another center. The leadership we have seen was amazing!
Also this week we expanded on team building and, again, broke into groups of two. Their challenge: to make the longest paper chain. Each team was given one sheet of construction paper, one pair of scissors and one glue stick. They had to plan together and implement their plan on how to make it long just using the one paper. It was amazing. These kids worked together, came up with a strategy, talked it out and created jobs for one another. If they got tired of their job they communicated it and switched kindly. They were excited. They were working well together. We genuinely impressed!
As a teacher for Team Gardener, we really wanted to challenge everyone and use this time to strengthen our reading skills. We have incorporated a small amount of time, about 20 minutes, and developed “Chill Out & Read”. It is a time where we get in from being out in the sun, put on some quiet calming music and enjoy the adventure that awaits us. We are currently feeling out where everyones reading levels are and have determined three groups: one will be reading a chapter book of their choice (either brought from home or one from our library), and the other two reading in a teacher led group. These reading groups will be logging, planing, reviewing and discussing their books. Everyone has been looking forward to “Chill Out & Read”!

Hello Parents!
This week, we had a great time exploring all the different ways we can build. We incorporated independent activities where students had to build things using popsicle sticks and play dough, paper, blocks, and LEGO’s. We also incorporated activities where students had to use teamwork. The paper chain competition was a hit and students had a blast. We are coming down to the last week of summer camp and it’s so hard to believe! It’s been a great summer so far and I can’t wait to see what the last week holds. Have a great weekend!

This week in summer camp was filled with FUN!
We found an American Dagger moth caterpillar playing around in our garden box
We made sure not to touch it because of its pickers BUT we did enjoy watching it squirm around the garden area
Our friends had a great time digging connecting tunnels in our sandbox with bridges, trenches and LOTS OF LAUGHTER!!!!
I LOVED witnessing The teamwork and camaraderie they had
I look forward to some exciting adventures next week during our last week of camp

- Today we will be walking down to the Toniquish creek. Please make sure your child brings tennis shoes to walk in. We will be walking through the nature forest, so there will be lots of bugs, so wear bug spray 🙂
